Butt Dialing?Most people know what butt dialing is, but for those cell phone users who do not, let us explain, especially since this site is focused on providing information pertinent to cell phone usage. According to the Urban Dictionary, butt dialing is when your cell phone accidentally calls someone when the phone is in your pocket and results in the unknowing broadcasting of what is happening to the person you “butt dialed.”Okay, now that we have that cleared up, here’s where a butt dial story can either get embarrassing (as in “I hate when my boss calls.doesn’t he know it’s hard to get a manicure and talk at the same time?”) to truly embarrassing (“Bill’s an idiot if he thinks I’ll ever let him do that again without being drunk first”).But, what happened in Chicago as the New Year entered was beyond embarrassing for the person listening to a butt dial from her husband. Apparently Chicago-area police responded in SWAT-like form to a butt dial made by a middle school administrative employee whose wife heard nothing but the hip-hop music that filled his car as he drove home and (not realizing it was a butt dial) she assumed the “lyrics that were gangster-like” warranted a call to the police department, fearing her husband and others might be being held hostage.So, what’s the police department to do except send out 30 SWAT team members? If only all butt dials elicited the same response, eh? The point here is clear: learn to lock your phones or revert back to a flip-style lest you be the subject of a similar story..or at the very least do not listen to “gangster-like lyrics.”
